School Counseling

What's "Bugging" You?  See the School Counselor, Mrs. Cahoon.

Why does PI have a school counselor?

The counselor is here to help you learn how to be the best you can be now and in the future.  The counselor teaches you how to be successful in school, in relationships with friends and family, and helps get you prepared for the future.  Some topics we will cover this year are goal setting, bullying prevention, career awareness, drug education, safety, testing and study tips, resolving conflicts, and making good choices.

When may you see the counselor?

There will be opportunities to see the counselor in monthly classroom guidance lessons, small group guidance upon referral, and individual counseling sessions.  You may be referred to me by your teacher, a parent, or you can make a self-referral if something is bothering you and you need help solving a problem.  I will also see you at parties, on field trips, and other fun school events.

What will the school counselor do?

The counselor will listen to you when you need to talk about your feelings, when you have problems focusing on schoolwork, when you need help with friendships, when someone is bullying you, when you want to talk about your future career goals, and many other topics.  I will try to help you solve your problems.

I look forward to meeting each one of you this year.  Please let me know if I can help you in any way!

My name is Sheridan Cahoon and I have been teaching and counseling a long time.  Time sure does fly by!  I am married to Wes Cahoon, a PE teacher and coach.  We have 3 daughters, LeeAnn, Lesley, and Katy Jo, who keep me very busy when I am not at school.  I have 2 dogs, and they keep us entertained.  We are members of First Baptist Church Prattville where I sing and teach Sunday School.  I love to read, ride roller coasters, watch Alabama football and golf, and go to the movies!

I am thrilled to be your school counselor!
